I stopped drying my hands

Now, whenever I wash my hands, rather than using a paper towel or one of the electric dryers, I just let them air dry. Sometimes I’ll run my wet hands through my hair or over my face, sometimes I’ll wipe them on my shirt or pants, but that seems to defeat the purpose of washing them.

When I first stopped drying my hands, I realized that I had never really considered why I dry my hands with paper towels. I suppose I did it because there were paper towels next to the sink, and my hands were wet. Now that I’m not drying them, it seems more strange to grab some paper to dry them than it does to just let them dry on their own. You’d be suprised how quickly your hands dry – within seconds, really.

Why? Because it is something that I can do. I don’t have any illusions of grandeur; I realize that I’m not saving any rainforests (I gave up on that after my 4th grade aluminum can drive). But it is something.

Maybe its a form of self discipline. Maybe I’m OCD.

  1. I think that your smarter than you give yourself credit. By the way I think you should write a book. Your excellent at putting thoughts into words.

  2. When you shared this craziness with me you said “I could probably at least save a ficus!” Forget rain forests…you spend more time with ficus’ anyway!
