Al3x , Alex Payne of Twitter, asked designers on Twitter to “doodle up a logo for a product called Hosebird” with promises of fame. I decided to participate, so I sketched out a few ideas on paper, and then made this in Photoshop. (Why not illustrator? I’m still quicker in Photoshop, even with illustrations.) After sending a link to Al3x, and seeing Thomas’ comment about “what hose is being talked about,” I did a little research. I found more information in this article, written by Al3x on the Twitter Technology Blog:
…what we jokingly refer to as our “firehose” of tweets. We intend to have a solution as soon as possible…We know there’s a lot of interest in the “firehose” and we’re eager to provide the best solution possible.
So what? Well, in this setting, my Input and Intellection strengths take over. It probably means that Twitter is close, or at least closer, to releasing the entire Twitter feed via their API. If you’re a web developer, that’s good news. And subsequently, if you’re a Twitter user, that’s really good news. If you’re Evan Williams, that’s really really good news. The timing is interesting too, because Twitter is hoping to begin generating revenue during the 1st quarter of 2009. Though there is much speculation, no one is sure how Twitter plans to make money. My guess is that it will partially coincide with HOSEbird; perhaps developers will have to pay for the product.
So, after putting all my speculations together, I updated the design to include a red hose and made the bird slightly smaller. Then I created a text version that includes the name “HOSEbird.”
So, what do you think of the logo and/or speculation?
