2008 Broncos Season Opener – pre-game thoughts

Today, I read an article in Mile High magazine titled “From First to Worst” which highlighted the changes in the Broncos’ organization over the last three years. Here is a summary of the dramatic changes in the organization.

In a few hours I’ll begin grilling the chicken; a few hours after that I’ll be eatting chicken and watching the Denver Broncos Monday night season opener in the Black Hole.

Less than three years ago, the Bronocos contended for the AFC Championship Title against Pittsburgh. I still recall the dissapointment of that game. Today, I read an article in Mile High magazine titled “From First to Worst” which highlighted the changes in the Broncos’ organization over the last three years. Here is a summary of the dramatic changes in the organization:

  1. Change Coordinators (multiple times) – from Kubiak/Coyer/Bradford to Heimerdinger/Dennison/Bates to Slowic/Dennison/O’Brien
  2. Change Quarterbacks – from Plummer to Cutler (interesting note: since the years of Elway, the Broncos are 43-42 without Plummer, versus 40-19 with Plummer)
  3. Change the Front Office – goodbye Smith and Sundquist
  4. Change the Roster – only 10 remain: on the offense, only two starters and two reserves remain (Nalen, Hamilton, Sapp, and Leach); on the deffense, only three starters and three reserve remain (Williams, Foxworth, Bailey, Payham, Green, and Ekuban).

I knew that Denver had become a very different team than it was when Elway led the team to back-to-back Super Bowl wins. I didn’t realize that the change was this dramatic.

So what does all this change mean? I loved watching Bailey and Marshall go head-to-head at training camp. Preseason was a fun tease before the season really begins. Tonight the real fun begins!

I still bleed blue and orange.

Go Broncos!!!
